l CSIG announced the winners of 2018 Shi Qingyun Award for Women Scientists on December 24. Four CCF-CV members, Dr. Meina Kan, associate researcher of Institute of Computing Technology, CAS, Assoc. Prof. Jiaying Liu from Peking University, Assoc. Prof. Li Liu from National University of Defense Technology, and Assoc. Prof. Jinqiu Sun from Northwestern Polytechnical University, received the award.

l The winners of 2018 Chinese Institute of Electronics Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award were announced on December 20. CCF-CV members’ PhD students, Chao Ma (supervisor: Prof. Xiaokang Yang, Shanghai Jiao Tong University) and Chunlei Peng (supervisor: Prof. Xinbo Gao, Xidian University), received the award.

l The Award Ceremony of 2018 AI Challenger was held in Beijing on December 19. The team, CASIA-AIRIA, led by CCF-CV member, Dr. Yifan Zhang, associate researcher of Institute of Automation, CAS, won second place in the track of Short Video Real-Time Classification.

l Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China released the list of scientists selected for the 2018 Innovative Talent Promotion Program on December 12. CCF-CV member, Prof. Yuxin Peng from Peking University, was selected as Leading Innovative Talent of Science and Technology.

l The first Chinese Conference on Pattern Recognition and Computer Vision (PRCV 2018) was held in Guangzhou on November 23-26. The Best Paper Award was presented to CCF-CV member, Prof. Shengyong Chen from Zhejiang University of Technology, for the paper “Oscillation Detection and Parameter-Adaptive Hedge Algorithm for Real-Time Visual Tracking”. The Best Student Paper Award went to CCF-CV members, Prof. Qingshan Liu and Prof. Xiaotong Yuan from Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology, for the paper “Integrating Convolutional Neural Network and Gated Recurrent Unit for Hyperspectral Images Spectral-Spatial Classification”.

l On November 21, General Secretary of CCF-CV, Dr. Liang Wang, researcher of Institute of Automation, CAS, and CCF-CV memebr, Prof. Xiaokang Yang from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, were selected as IEEE newly elevated fellows.

l On November 16, CAA released its 2018 fellow list. CCF-CV member, Prof. Jianru Xue from Xi’an Jiaotong University was selected.

l The winners of the first CCF-CV New Academic Talent Award were announced on November 9. Mr. Minghui Liao, PhD student of CCF-CV member, Prof. Xiang Bai from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, was selected.

l On November 8, CCF-CV member, Dr. Jingdong Wang, senior researcher of Microsoft Research Asia, was named an ACM Distinguished Member.

l CSIG released the list of scientists selected for 2018-2020 Young Talent Support Program on November 5. CCF-CV member, Dr. Bin Fan, associate researcher of Institute of Automation, CAS, was selected.

l CCF released its list of the 2018-2020 Youth Talent Support Program on October 31. CCF-CV member, Dr. Shanshan Zhang from Nanjing University of Science & Technology, was selected.

l On October 26, CCF-CV membesr, Assoc. Prof. Jiaying Liu from Peking University and Assoc. Prof. Si Liu from Beihang University won sponsorship from the CCF-Tencent Rhino-Bird Open Research Fund.

l On October 10, CCF-CV member, Assoc. Prof. Jiaying Liu from Peking University was honored with Peking University Outstanding Teaching Award. She is the youngest recipient of this award.

l The Award Ceremony of ICPR 2018 was held on August 24. Three CCF-CV members received the Best Scientific Paper Award: Prof. Hongbin Zha from Peking University, for the paper “Scalable Monocular SLAM by Fusing and Connecting Line Segments with Inverse Depth Filter”; Dr. Wei Wang and Dr. Tieniu Tan from Institute of Automation of CAS, for their paper “DeepFireanm: Learning Discriminative Feature Representation for Fine-Grained Firearm Retrieval”.

l On August 23, three CCF-CV members, Prof. Yunhong Wang from Beihang University, Prof. Songcan Chen from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Dr. Jingdong Wang, researcher of Microsoft, were named IAPR Fellows.

l On August 17, the list of 2018 National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars was announced, including four CCF-CV members: Assoc. Prof. Jiwen Lu from Tsinghua University, Assoc. Prof. Guofeng Zhang from Zhejiang University, Prof. Yuming Fang from Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, and Assoc. Prof. Mingliang Xu from Zhengzhou University.

l On August 5-8, ICFHR 2018 was held in Buffalo, USA. The team, led by CCF-CV member, Prof. Lianwen Jin from South China University of Technology, won first place in the Competition on Thai Student Signature and Name Components Recognition and Verification.

l On August 3, the National Natural Science Foundation of China released its list of the 2018 Distinguished Young Scholars Fund. CCV-CF member, Prof. Qingshan Liu from Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology, was awarded.

l On July 25, the paper “Using Free Energy Principle For Blind Image Quality Assessment”, co-authored by CCF-CV member, Prof. Xiaokang Yang (Shanghai Jiao Tong University) and other researchers, won the Best Paper Award of IEEE Transactions on Multimedia (TMM).

l On July 25, four CCF-CV members, Assoc. Prof. Jiwen Lu and Assist. Prof. Hang Su from Tsinghua University, Prof. Jun Yu from Hangzhou Dianzi University, Dr. Shiguang Shan and Dr. Xilin Chen (CCF-CV Deputy Director), researchers of Institute of Computing Technology, CAS, won the Platinum Best Paper Award at ICME 2018.

l On June 22, the team, led by CCF-CV member, Prof. Peihua Li from Dalian University of Technology, won first place in CVPR 2018 iNaturalist Challenge.

l On March 11, Context-aware Collaborative Prediction, co-authored by Dr. Tieniu Tan (CCF-CV Director, CAS Academician), Dr. Liang Wang (CCF-CV Secretary-General) and Dr. Shu Wu, researcher of Institute of Automation, CAS, was published by Springer.

l On March 9, the 3rd list of “Ten Thousand Talent Program” was released. l On March 1, the paper titled “Multi-Oriented Scene Text Detection via Corner Localization and Region Segmentation”, by CCF-CV member, Prof. Xiang Bai from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, was accepted by CVPR 2018.

l The 2017 CCF Award Ceremony was held in Beijing on February 3. CCF-CV received the Annual Special Award.

l On January 30, MIT Technology Review released its 2017 list of 35 innovators under 35 (China). CCF-CV member, Prof. Zhengjun Zha from University of Science and Technology of China, was selected for his contribution to overcoming semantic gap and intention gap.
