Over the past several years, massive visual computing has rapidly become a very hot topic in the computer vision and pattern recognition community. Due to the importance of ubiquitous visual data and promising applications such as video surveillance, biometrics, human-computer interaction, virtual reality, and so on, Massive Visual Computing has aroused strong interest of vision researchers. Although in recent years there have been some important progresses, many challenging research issues remain unresolved, e.g., the limited capacity of the existing low-level visual features; in terms of visual representation, large-scale multi-source heterogeneous data lack effective analyzing tools; in visual learning and inferring, the traditional classifier for large-scale, multi-class high-dimensional data is inefficient, etc.
This Call for Papers seeks for ongoing and cutting-edge research on massive visual computing problems with respect to theoretical and technological aspects. In particular, for massive visual data analysis and application systems, this Special Issue aims to collect excellent papers on large-scale visual computing theories and methods, which are to surmount a major bottleneck in the efficiency, accuracy, robustness in visual computing, to develop large-scale visual feature extraction, representation, learning and inferring methods, while providing a theoretical basis and key technical support for a wide range of applications including wide-area video monitoring, multi-modal biometrics, security of large-scale online information, and so on.
Example topics include but are not limited to
- Large-scale visual feature extraction;
- Visual feature representation;
- Large-scale visual learning and inference;
- Knowledge transfer for large-scale visual data;
- Large-scale visual system and applications;
- Other related topics.
Submission and Review:
Manuscripts are to be submitted according to the Information for Authors at http://www.ijac.net/EN/column/column111.shtml. All manuscripts and any supplementary material should be submitted through http://mc03.manuscriptcentral.com/ijac. Authors must select “Special Issue: Massive Visual Computing” in the submission process. Papers must not have appeared or be under review elsewhere. Each submission will be reviewed by at least two experts in the related fields based on the criteria of originality, significance, quality, and clarity.
